*1999 Opus One
Opus One Red, Napa Valley, USA 1999
The richness of the texture takes a step up with this vintage, and the wines are at this point starting to display consistency and clarity of purpose. Black cherry meets the brambled hedgerow fruits, and a damson puree fills the mid-palate, this is deeply spiced with cloves and anise. The tannins are clear and present but silky. 3% Malbec and 1% Petit Verdot completes the blend. 40 days skin contact, moderate summer temperatrues and unhurried harvest. [DC]
The 1999 Opus One offers aromas of cassis, cloves, and roasted almonds against a creamy texture of soft tannins and round, rich fruit. Long-lived and concentrated, the wine shows flavors of plum, cherry and black pepper against a silky finish.
Opus One is the realized dream of two men: Baron Philippe de Rothschild of Chateau Mouton Rothschild in Bordeaux and Napa Valley vintner Robert Mondavi. Together, our founders set out to create a single wine dedicated to the pursuit of uncompromising quality. This singular mission shapes every vintage, today and for generations to come.
