Our To Kalon is all about grace and refinement. It offers a kaleidoscope of cassis and cherry flavors, balanced with smoky oak nuances. The 2006 vintage has given us a wine that is beyond exemplary; the best we’ve produced to date. It exudes seductive aromas and offers a lush texture that lingers on the palate indefinitely.
The 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer To-Kalon Vineyard exhibits a deep ruby/purple color, more apparent tannin than the 2007, lots of cedarwood, smoke, earth, and licorice notes, a full-bodied mouthfeel, and a structured finish. (RP)
Very ripe and fleshy, with full-bodied plum and black cherry fruit that's complex and elegant, ending with supple, fine-grained tannins and cedary oak. (WS)
We are proud to present the 3rd vintage of our two extraordinary vineyarddesignate Cabernet Sauvignon wines – 2006 Janzen ‘Cloudy’s Vineyard’ and 2006 Janzen ‘Beckstoffer To Kalon Vineyard’. From our numerous Cabernet Sauvignon vineyards, we have chosen our two favorites to produce a vineyarddesignate wine. Each captures the purity of the fruit and the essence of the vineyard. The 2006 yield was miniscule compared to the bountiful 2005 harvest, and our wines benefited from nature’s parsimony. Personally, I was thrilled to make wines in this vintage. These two vineyards are quite different in character; the wines express that individuality and are honest examples of their provenance. Both wines will age gracefully, and could easily be included in your children’s inheritance. Our own estate vineyard, known as ‘Cloudy’s Vineyard’, faces out from a steep, sunny hillside, glancing westward towards the ocean. It is our only vineyard that lies untilled, the copious rocks barring the tractor’s discs from the meager soil. With no rainfall during the growing season, the roots grow deep in search of moisture and nutrients. The resulting wine is somewhat ‘Howell Mountain-esque’, with notable ripe tannins, balanced with a polished acidity and deep in flavor and structure.
