*2010 Coup de Foudre Cabernet Sauvignon
Coup de Foudre Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley, USA 2010
Bright ruby-red. Aromas of cassis, menthol, smoked meat and licorice are lifted by fresh herbs. Supple on entry, then creamy in the middle, with black fruit flavors carrying a rather heavy dose of oak. Undeniably sweet and round but a bit aggressive with alcohol today (the label says 14.8%). Finishes with a serious dusting of tannins. Best for fans of oaky, creamy Cabernets. (ST)
Coup De Foudre is ‘love at first sight’ in French, even in the cases of wine or food. The winery said, “Every now and then lightening strikes. That is exactly what happened when we tasted through all our Cabernet Sauvignon barrels during blending, and determined that four of them were of particularly exceptional quality. Produced from our Clone 4 and Clone 337 this 100% Cabernet Sauvignon emerges from the glass with dark plum, baker’s chocolate, black cherries, licorice and spice. Dense blueberry, underlined by well-integrated oak, offers striking textural depth and richness with great balance and complexity from the entry to the finish. Aged in 100% New French Oak for 28 months, this beautifully proportioned, fragrant Cabernet deftly combines elegance and power. This special release is the uber Cabernet from our Estate. 95 cases produced.”
One of the most prestigious wines of the world capable of great power and grace, Napa Valley Cabernet is a leading force in the world of fine, famous, collectible red wines. Today the Napa Valley and Cabernet Sauvignon are so intrinsically linked that it is difficult to discuss one without the other.
