Barnett Vineyards Rattlesnake Hill Cabernet Sauvignon, Spring Mountain District, USA
Vintage 2005: [WE 95] [CT 92]
Vintage 2006: [WE 95] [CT 92]
The fruit from Rattlesnake Hill produces aromas of toasted brown sugar, oriental spice and plums with flavors evolving even more while cellaring. The 2000 vintage produces big, bold fruit with an ideal combination of concentration, ripeness and acidity. Across the palette it is elegant and rich with the blend of Cabernet Franc adding layers and finesse to the finish.
Founded in 1983, Barnett Vineyards is a family-owned winery located at 2000’ elevation atop Spring Mountain. The winery is dedicated to the principles of remaining a small 100% family-owned winery, producing small quantities of estate wines and other varietals sourced from outstanding vineyards in appellations appropriate to each varietal.
Rattlesnake Hill is a small rocky knoll with a 35-degree slope, located at 2050’ elevation. At this elevation, the vines rise above the fog line, providing up to 3 hours additional sunlight per day. This unique microclimate enables the grapes to ripen more evenly, producing the highest quality fruit. In addition, the vines on Rattlesnake Hill must struggle to reach nutrients and water in the soil, resulting in extremely low yields. In 2000, the yield was less than one ton an acre.
